Eco-responsible charter

At a time when we are talking about climate change, the threat to biodiversity and acute questions about energy resources, it is important to mobilise at all levels and in all sectors

One of our objectives is to develop eco-responsible practices. Apart from the substantial savings, responsible energy management is a key factor in sustainable development. The same applies to waste management, which should lead to actions related to prevention, recycling and reuse. We also want to promote local craftsmen and Belgian know-how

Many campers are willing to be eco-responsible. Many are already taking concrete action. Many of them reproduce at the campsite the actions they have been implementing at home for a long time already: sorting papers, saving electricity and water… Others simply do not know how to do it. We hope that everyone will support our approach

Camping Beau Rêve wants to set an example through eco-responsible practices. Among the actions already carried out, we have become entirely independent in green electricity thanks to our photovoltaic panels

Why undertake eco-responsible actions?

“What nature gives us, we must preserve”.

This is why we want to engage our campsite in an ecological transition to limit our impact on the environment.

Limiting our impact on the environment means preserving the environment in which we live.

Limiting our impact on the environment also means changing our consumption patterns.

Being eco-responsible: It means acting for the environment of all and enjoying a healthier place.

Through the eco-responsible charter, each of our campers is invited to participate in this ecological approach through a few commitments and concrete actions, oriented around five objectives:

Acting on...energy

Objective: To reduce energy consumption

The electricity we use on our campsite comes almost exclusively from renewable energy from our solar panels.

Green energy is good, but it is even better to control your electricity consumption and avoid losses. Identifying the most energy-intensive installations and implementing less energy-intensive solutions are the areas of improvement on which we will work.

As a camper…

I undertake to recharge, if possible, batteries and electrical appliances during the sunny hours and to run on batteries during the dark hours

I undertake not to leave electrical appliances on standby unnecessarily and to switch off lights during the day

I undertake to switch off the vehicle’s engine when stopped

I undertake not to heat unnecessarily and to close the doors to prevent heat loss

Alongside me, Camping Beau Reve is committed to :

  • Monitoring energy consumption
  • Progressively equip premises with low-energy light bulbs
  • Installing presence detectors for lighting the premises
  • Monitoring the maintenance of the facilities

Acting on...water

Objective: To reduce water consumption.

Water is a vital resource, so implementing a rainwater harvesting system and thinking about efficient water management is one of our priorities.

As a camper,

I undertake to use low-flush toilets where possible

I agree to use cold water to wash my hands

I undertake not to leave the tap running unnecessarily

I undertake to report any water leakage that I notice to the relevant technical department

I undertake not to throw toxic products or paint into the toilets.

Alongside me, Camping Beau Rêve is committed to :

  • Consider installing a rainwater harvesting system
  • Investigate different wastewater treatment solutions
  • Ensure the maintenance of installations (leaks, etc.)
  • Considering dry toilets

Did you know? …

Freshwater represents only 2.5% of the world’s water resources, it is precious and deserves to be saved.

A small water leak on a tap (drip) represents 15 m³/year of waste, i.e. 65 €. A large leak can represent 150 m³ of loss per year or €650! A toilet flush uses 6 to 10 litres of water, i.e. 30 m³/year (130 €).

Taking action on...waste

Objective: Reduce, sort and recycle waste.

The best waste is that which is not produced! Each of us produces over 500kg of waste per year. Chacun de nous produit plus de 500kg de déchets par an. We can try to reduce the amount of waste we throw away and at least sort the waste we generate. For this purpose, our small ecological campsite will provide waste separation bins.

We will also offer to give a second life to fruit and vegetable peelings by feeding the composter.

As a camper …

I undertake not to throw my rubbish on the ground or into the streams

I commit myself to sorting waste and to respecting the recycling instructions

I undertake to encourage the reuse of organic waste and to respect the composting instructions

I undertake to reduce the amount of waste by favouring reusable or recyclable containers

Alongside me, Camping Beau Rêve is committed to :

  • Gradually improve selective sorting
  • Clearly communicate recycling and composting instructions
  • Investigate the technical and financial possibilities of various ecological solutions

Did you know? …

Despite the harmful effects on the environment, many people continue to dump their waste in the countryside. Although some products are biodegradable, most take many years to biodegrade and some do not biodegrade at all.

Some examples: Orange peel or apple core: 1 month Paper: 2 to 5 months Newspaper: 3 to 12 months Fruit and vegetables: 3 months to 2 years Cigarette stub (with filter): 1 to 2 years Plastic bag: 450 years Plastic packaging for a 6-pack of bottles: 400 years Plastic bottles: 400 years Polystyrene: 1,000 years Glass bottles: 4,000 years Batteries: 7,500 years Tyres: Not biodegradable

Acting on...the protection of our ecosystem

Objective: To protect the fauna and flora around us

“What nature gives us, we must preserve”.

We want to preserve biodiversity by keeping parts ‘wild’, encouraging wild plants and protecting wild animals

As a camper …

I undertake not to feed the animals (neither the wild animals nor those of the campsite)

I undertake not to feed the animals (neither the wild animals nor those of the campsite)

I undertake not to collect dead wood in the forest as some is left there on purpose to promote biodiversity

I undertake not to disturb the beavers between the beginning of May (births) and the end of June (weaning of the young)

I undertake to protect the reproduction cycle of fireflies by avoiding as much light pollution as possible between 22:00 and 23:30 from 15 June to 15 July.

Alongside me, Camping Beau Rêve is committed to :

  • Gradually improve the footpaths leading from the campsite
  • To improve the possibilities of observing the animals present on the campsite
  • Setting up a permaculture vegetable garden
  • Investigate the technical and financial possibilities of various ecological solutions

Did you know? …

Our Belgian fauna includes three species of glowworms. Its name is misleading: the glowworm is not a worm, but a beetle that emits cold light through bioluminescence. Only males can fly. This mysterious animal is becoming less and less common in our country. Light pollution is causing it to desert our parks and woods.

In order to protect their breeding cycle, we ask that light pollution be avoided from 22:00 to 23:30 from 15 June to 15 July.

Taking action on...permaculture and local consumption

Objective: To promote local producers and Belgian know-how

Whether it is at the food level (local producers,…) or at the construction level (sawmills, Belgian craftsmen and small companies, etc.), we wish to develop a local network and promote short circuits.

As a camper …

I undertake to use a maximum of products from short circuits during my stay

Alongside me, Camping Beau Rêve is committed to :

  • Promote producers and craftsmen who adhere to our eco-responsible charter
  • Promote producers and craftsmen who adhere to our eco-responsible charter
  • Intensify information and awareness campaigns

Sharing our ideas for the environment

We want to become a place of exchange and why not a place of learning through workshops organised with our partners
We have lots of ideas, both classic and more original, to make our ecological campsite even greener. We will strive to implement them as soon as possible. Do not hesitate to contact us with your suggestions for improvement!

As an Eco-camper…

I will endeavour to comply with the recommendations set out in this charter.

In return for this commitment, Camping Beau Rêve undertakes to :

  • Implement a programme of actions and facilities that will facilitate daily life and encourage campers to contribute to the preservation of the environment
